Susan Boyle will perform for the Pope

Wednesday, October 6 2010

Susan Boyle is a devout Catholic and she is just ecstatic at being asked to sing for Pope Benedict XVI in an open-air ceremony in Glasgow when he visits the city next month.

"To be able to sing for the Pope is a great honour and something I've always dreamed of - it's indescribable," she said.

"I think the 16th of September will stand out in my memory as something I've always wanted to do, I've always wanted to sing for his Holiness and I can't really put into words my happiness, that this wish has come true at last."

The singer who is 49 years old will sing her best known song I Dreamed a Dream from Les Miserables as well as perform with an 800-strong choir while the Pope performs mass.

"The Pope's visit is a very big event for Scottish Catholics. My own faith is the backbone of my life, I pray and say the rosary each day and am very close to my religion," she said.
