After the mother of Rubina Ali, the child star in the Oscar-winning movie Slumdog Millionaire, demanded a thorough investigation when a sting operation by an international tabloid suspected the child's father of allegedly selling the kid, the news spread swiftly that it reached almost all parts of the world.
However, the Indian police recently announced that they found no evidence suggesting the 9-year-old's father, Rafiq Qureshi, trying to sell his daughter for 200,000 pounds. The result came after the questioning and inquiry of the police to Rubina's father and their neighbors in a slum area in the suburbs of an Indian city where the child’s family live.
"So far there is no evidence of any offence, hence there is no registration of complaint and no arrest," said Nisar Tamboli, a senior police officer. Consequently, Qureshi also denied the allegations thrown unto him.
