For the first time in 20 years, Beatles entire collection of CDs will be digitally remastered and re-released on September 9. Apple Corps Ltd. and EMI Music both announced the news. New liner notes and photos will be shown in the CDs.
The 4-year remastered CDs include 14 discs all in all--12 original Beatles albums in stereo together with Past Masters Volumes I and II, which will be made as one, as well as the Magical Mystery Tour. Besides, the discs will be available as a stereo boxed set.
According to the press release, the analog master tapes were copied and converted one track at a time into the digital format. To increase the volume of the tracks, "it was unanimously agreed (by the engineers) that because of the importance of the Beatles' music, limiting would be used moderately, so as to retain the original dynamics of the recordings."
