Musician-comedian Steve Martin to perform at Grand Ole Opry

Thursday, April 2 2009

by Kaustav Das Modak

We have known Steve Martin as the popular stand-up comedian who became famous in the 1970's. He is credited with shows like "Saturday Night Live" and has also acted in movies like "Pink Panther 2". But, what many of us did not know about Steve Martin is that he has been playing banjo for a long time.

Last month, Steve Martin released his first album named "The Crow: New Songs for the Five-String Banjo" based on the bluegrass genre. He will be performing this album at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville on May 30.

Steve Martin has been playing banjo from the time he was 17 and feels that if he didn't make a musical release at 63 years of age, his "fingers might slow down" or he would "forget the songs." "The Crow" includes 15 tracks composed by Martin.

His friend and producer Jon McEuen said that when Steve Martin will perform on the stage of the Opry, the audience will find that "he's a musician disguised as an actor".
