Not everybody who have visited or know about the Guantanamo Bay in Cuba can describe it as a "relaxing, calm, beautiful place". It is the home to around 240 foreign terrorism suspects who have been held in detention by the United States of America. The Cuban government has often termed the US base at Guantanamo Bay as illegal and it is regarded as an abuse of USA's war against terrorism which began after the 9/11 attacks.
But, that was not what Dayana Mendoza, the Miss Universe from Venezuela felt about that place. She visited Guantanamo with United Service Organizations (USO) for six days from March 20 to March 25. Her companion was the 27 year old Miss USA Crystle Stewart.
On March 27, Mendoza posted on her blog saying that she had an "incredible experience" at the US naval facility in Guantanamo. Apart from sight-seeing and meeting the families of the US troops stationed at the base, they visited the jails where the prisoners are held and were shown how the detainees recreate themselves. As a response to her visit, Mendoza wrote that she had a lot of fun and added, "I didn't want to leave, it was such a relaxing place, so calm and beautiful."
The Miss Universe Organization stated that this trip was a part of the goof relation they had with the United Service Organization.
