Actor Ashton Kutcher challenged media giant CNN in a competition of popularity on the social networking site Twitter.
The actor posted a video on Tuesday on the website Qik.com urging CNN to compete with him to reach the mark of 1 million followers on Twitter. Though, the actor has taken this for fun and he is not sure whether he will reach that mark before CNN does. As of Wednesday morning, Kutcher's profile had crossed more than 931,000 followers, while CNN's Breaking News profile on Twitter had more than 954,000 followers by that time.
The challenge video was shot in a car and Kutcher remarks in it that if he beats CNN in the 1 million race then he would "ding-dong ditch Ted Turner", because he doesn't think that it will happen.
Till date, no account on Twitter had 1 million followers, as reported by the sites, Twitter Counter and Twitterholic, which count the followers of the most famous users on Twitter. Till yesterday, Britney Spears's account on Twitter was ranked 2nd behind CNN for most number of followers. But, today it has come down to third with Ashton Kutcher's account soaring past hers. By Wednesday morning Britney's Twitter site had over 921,300 followers.
Whoever is the winner of this race, both Twitter and Kutcher have announced that they will donate 10,000 mosquito bed nets on World Malaria Day if they win and 1,000 in case they lose.
