Kate Winslet Wins Libel Suit Against Daily Mail

Sunday, November 8 2009

Kate Winslet was "delighted" knowing that she won the libel case she filed against British newspaper Daily Mail. She will be receiving $40,000 from the paper, and it has agreed to publish an apology to the award-winning actress.

In a statement, she said, "I am delighted that the Mail have apologized for making false allegations about me… I was particularly upset to be accused of lying about my exercise regime, and felt that I had a responsibility to request an apology in order to demonstrate my commitment to the views that I have always expressed about body issues, including diet and exercise."

Winslet sued the paper when the story entitled "Should Kate Winslet win an Oscar for the World's most irritating actress?" was published on January 30 claiming that the 33-year-old lied about her exercise routine.
