John Malkovich likes to play with guns

Wednesday, November 10 2010

The actor John Malkovich - who plays an ex-CIA assassin in the movie RED - says he enjoys playing with guns.

"Look, I love to squeeze off a few rounds as much as the next guy," he said.

"But I'm not an expert in any way. You get comfortable with guns, and with big guns. And as we know, guns can be funny."

Malkovich added that, despite all his years in Hollywood, he's "still surprised by the movie they made out of your performance. Always.

"I know pretty well what I'm creating from take to take. But you never know how something will be cut together. Obviously, that has a massive effect on the performance. It's not like a play, where you edit yourself.

"I did a comedy a few years ago, Color me Kubrick, and this sounds incredibly immodest, but I liked that performance, a LOT."

"But the film as a whole doesn't really work as it should have. To a great extent, the comedy is not focused."

"If it's a film with a lot of dialogue, funniness is SAYING something funny, or saying something that's funny in a given situation or just saying it in a funny way, LOUDLY or what have you."
