Two of the acclaimed judges of American Idol have discussed leaving the popular singing competition. Both Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell were interviewed about exiting the show in the near future.
"You take out one person like Paula or Simon, (and) you're affecting every other player in this grid. They're a family, a dysfunctional family, and it's tough to mess with that," said James Poniewozik, Time's TV critic.
The possible departure of Cowell or Abdul may hurt the millions of dollars in annual advertising revenue that the show is continuously reaping over the course of its airing.
Cowell said in an interview that if Idol slipped as the number one rated show, he would leave. "I have had a great eight years. But inevitably you get to a point in life when you think maybe it's time for a change. I have not even sat down with them yet. Maybe I'm being premature. Maybe they don't want me!," he added.
