For the first time in the history of the Cannes Film Festival, it will begin with showing an animated movie. The movie named "Up" has been developed at the Disney Pixar studios and directed by Pete Docter. Docter is known for writing the "Toy Story" and for the direction of the animated move "Monsters, Inc.".
"Up" is to be premiered at the Cannes on May 13, the date the opening ceremony is scheduled. After that, the movie will be released on May 29 in the United States of America.
A number of animated films have entered the Cannes Film Festival in the past. They include Dumbo (1947), Shrek (2001), Waltz with Bashir (2008) and many others. But none of them have ever opened the prestigious film competition.
