Boston NBC affiliate will not air Jay Leno show

Friday, April 3 2009

by Kaustav Das Modak

WHDH Channel 7, the affiliate of NBC in Boston said that they will not broadcast the talk show presented by Jay Leno in the autumn. The reason they are refusing to telecast Leno's show is that believe that they will get better ratings if they air a local news update.

Ed Ansin, the owner of the channel, said they think they will have better opportunity if they telecast the news, instead of the Leno show, at 10 p.m. He thinks that the Leno show does not fit the primetime slot and will be broadcasted at 11 p.m.

However, NBC is extremely against this move. John Eck, the NBC president, warned that NBC will withdraw WHDH's affiliation if the channel persists to avoid the terms and conditions of their contract with NBC.

Ed Ansin has said in turn that his channel has a different contract with NBC and the terms let him to decide whether or not he will broadcast the Leno show.
