When the list of Jamaica's 100 best songs over the 50 years was revealed, Bob Marley's song made it to the top spot. One Love received a whopping 726 points while the second placer, O Carolina, only got 540 points.
The list was compiled by a panel of musicians and cultural officials that are associated with the University of the West Indies. In top 100, the reggae legend had nine songs included and they were Simmer Down at number 9, No Woman No Cry positioned at the 12the place, Redemption Song is number 14, among others.
Mixed responses were received. Some critics and analysts said that there are other great songs that should be part of Jamaica's 100 best songs from 1957 to 2007. Wayne Chen, one of the panel members, said, "People have said to me that they wanted more of the deejay and dancehall songs included, but like in everything else, you can't please everybody. I would have loved to see some more dub music, because I am a fan of dub, but that did not happen,"
