Lubanga is the founder of the Union of Congolese Patriots, a group who reportedly recruited child soldiers. Jolie stressed, "After watching the proceedings from the viewing booth, I stood up and found Thomas Lubanga Dyilo looking at me."

In a statement, the actress conferred, "I imagined how difficult it must be for all the brave young children who have come to testify against him."

After attending the trial, she headed to Cannes as she is set to grace the premiere of husband Brad Pitt's new film Inglourious Basterds.
